FALL LEAF PROGRAM
In the fall, deciduous trees shed their leaves in
preparation for winter. If you have too much
green waste/leaves to fit in your organics (green
waste) cart, simply bag the debris and call Waste
Management for a pick-up. Waste Management
will pick up 3 bags of organics/green waste per
week at no extra cost. For more information, call
(800) 266-7551 or visit home.wm.com/san-dimas.
RAINY SEASON PREPARATIONS
In California, we receive sporadic rainfall events that are increasingly more concentrated.
The rainy season in Southern California is generally regarded from October 1 through
April 15 of the following year, but the weather pattern has become increasingly
unpredictable.
In an effort to prepare for the rainy season property owners are encouraged to check
the drainage devices such as concrete bench drains, swales, channels, and natural
stream beds located on their properties to ensure that they are clear of all debris and
plant overgrowth that may obstruct rainwater flow.
Sandbags are very useful in diverting water, protecting slopes and structures, and
assisting in erosion control. Sand piles will be available for residents beginning October
1st in the parking lot at the San Dimas City Yard located at 301 South Walnut Avenue.
Bring a shovel and fill a few bags to keep for a rainy day. Please note, staff are not
available to assist.
As a reminder, disposal of anything other than rainwater into the storm drain system
is a violation of the San Dimas Municipal Code and the Federal Clean Water Act as this
water drains to our local water bodies and ultimately the ocean. If you observe any
illegal disposal in drainage swales, catch basins, or on the street, please contact the
Public Works Department at (909) 394-6240. Thank you for doing your part to keep your
home and our community safe.
MOBILE DETAILERS/CAR WASHING
Mobile detailers are mobile car washing business operations working in residential
areas and business centers. Mobile detailers are required to obtain a City business
license and utilize best management practices (BMPs) to prevent water pollution that
will eventually reach the ocean. The disposal of cleaning solutions and waste water into
the storm drain system: streets, gutters, catch basins, drain pipes, etc. is not permitted
under any circumstance. A few options to contain runoff:
-flexible berm/wattle to prevent runoff and wet vacuum to clean up wastewater
-vacuum boom (flexible snake to suck air and water to a holding tank)
-washing mat that contains wastewater and then vacuumed for disposal
The preferred option for waste water is zero discharge or closed-loop recycled water.
The second option is to discharge into the municipal sewer system via residential sewer
cleanout, utility sink or toilet, etc. Waste water can also be taken offsite for disposal
at your home or business. Precautions should be considered to prevent heavy debris
from clogging sinks and toilets. Residents washing their cars at home are not subject to
these guidelines; they only apply to commercial car washing operations.
